My Journey with IVF started 2 years ago. Needless to say I was nervous, apprehensive and clueless about the "do's" and "dont's". We took a family recommendation and went with a very well respected Doctor, only she was a 2 hour flight away. After lots of travel, expenses and 3 failed IVF attempts, I found Dr. Katiyar. Today, thanks to her we are blessed with beautiful twins. From my experience, I'd like to share some points that one needs to consider during IVF and especially while choosing your Doctor.
1) It is very important to be at ease and comfortable with your surroundings (nothing like your hometown) and a Doctor who is going to hold your hand through this stressful process of IVF + your 9 months of pregnancy and make it as easy and stress free as possible.
2) There will be numerous moments during this journey when you need to feel comfortable to contact her. It could be because you have developed an allergy or your Thyroid is high or you gave yourself the wrong injection, or a wrong dosage of one of 10 different meds, and so on and so forth. If your Doctor is just an SMS away it is the biggest comfort one can possibly have, trust me. If you first have to get through an army of assistants who can't give you the right answer it's a waste of time and again extremely stressful in times of crisis.
3) There should be no "ticking time bomb" attached to the visits you make to your Doctor. She should be able to see you personally and answer your Ques and apprehensions on a one to one basis, and take the time to explain the what, how, why, and when of things.
4) Credentials matter. Professionalism matters. You don't want to be chasing your Doctor for answers or go into it "Ram bharose"!
5) If she is just an IVF Doctor and not a Gyne then you will be running to numerous other doctors for various other tests and issues. After 3 failed attempts, and facing all the above challenges, when I approached Dr Richa Katiyar for IVF, I knew I did not need to look elsewhere. Her credentials are outstanding (AIIM's gold Medalist), her attitude is very positive, her demeanor was very receptive to questions, she is very caring and to top it all off she is a true Professional who is up-to-date on the latest technologies and methods - all this made my husband and I feel that we were in safe hands. We are forever grateful to Dr Katiyar for bringing our two little ones into the world (yes, she also did the delivery!) and recommend her unreservedly!
